What We Do

The Fraser Valley Regional Watersheds Coalition acts as a forum for local governments, First Nations, professionals and community stewardship groups to share their experiences and knowledge of the issues and solutions surrounding stewardship and sustainability in our region. The geographic focus of the Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition includes the watersheds of the Central and Upper Fraser Valley and the Lower Fraser Canyon.

In the past, the Fraser Valley Regional Watersheds Coalition was a partner in the delivery of the Salmonid Renewal Program in conjunction with Fisheries Renewal BC. That program resulted in an influx of stewardship activity in the Fraser Valley over the years it was in service, resulting in the completion of 64 projects throughout the Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon. Since the end of this program, several stewardship groups have continued their work conserving our fisheries resources and natural environment through the adoption of innovative partnerships and fund raising. Although the Coalition no longer acts as a repository for funding, we still can assist community stewardship groups, First Nations and local governments by providing information on where funds can be accessed, how to write funding proposals and offer our support on project proposals.

The Fraser Valley Regional Watersheds Coalition aims to provide our membership with access to the most updated resources they need to carry out their work, including:

  • Policy and Regulations
  • Best Management Practices
  • Training Opportunities; and
  • Teacher's Resources

We also try to use our meetings to allow members to network and showcase their projects through monthly lectures and presentations.

The Coalition acts as a catalyst for partnerships between groups to carry out projects, share information, and coordinate knowledge and mapping data management. We have partnerships with local governments, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Community Mapping Network and the University College of the Fraser Valley to ensure that there is equitable access to the knowledge we all need to be wise stewards of our natural environment.

The Coalition received a Caring for Ecosystems Award for recognition of its contribution to sustainability in the Fraser Valley by the Fraser Basin Council in the year 2000.
